Abstract

Artificial intelligence is increasingly transforming modern supply chain management by improving demand forecasting, inventory planning, logistics, supplier management, risk identification, warehouse operations, and decision-making. Supply chains generate large volumes of information across procurement, production, transportation, warehousing, sales, and customer service, creating opportunities for AI-based analytics and automation. This paper examines the role of artificial intelligence in modern supply chain management, focusing on demand prediction, inventory optimization, procurement, logistics, warehouse management, supplier risk, customer demand, supply chain visibility, and implementation challenges. AI and machine learning can identify patterns in historical and real-time data, helping organizations anticipate changes in demand and respond to disruptions. Automated systems can also support route planning, inventory replenishment, warehouse activities, and supplier evaluation. These applications can improve efficiency and reduce some operational costs while strengthening supply chain responsiveness. However, AI adoption requires reliable data, interoperable systems, skilled employees, cybersecurity, appropriate governance, and organizational readiness. Supply chain models can also produce inaccurate recommendations when data are incomplete or market conditions change unexpectedly. The paper argues that AI should function as a decision-support and automation capability that complements supply chain professionals rather than replacing human judgement. Responsible integration of AI with operational knowledge, digital infrastructure, and continuous monitoring can improve visibility, efficiency, resilience, and long-term supply chain performance.
